What is the recommended daily intake of calories for someone my age?

According to the National Institute of Health, the recommended daily caloric intake for an individual varies depending on age, gender, weight and activity level. For a 20 year-old male, who is moderately active and weighs around 250 lbs, the recommended daily caloric intake would be about 3,000 calories per day.

These calories should come from a balanced diet that includes all five food groups: fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, dairy products and healthy fats. It's important to make sure to get enough protein as well – at least 1.0 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight every day – in order to maintain strong muscles and bones. Eating enough nutrient-dense foods is also imperative in order to avoid nutrient deficiencies that can lead to health problems over time.

Health experts recommend 30% of these calories coming from carbohydrates (which give us energy), 30% fat (which helps us absorb nutrients) and the other 40% from proteins (which provide building blocks for tissue growth). In addition to including all five food groups into your diet, it's also important to pay attention to portion sizes when eating out or packing meals for school or work. Eating smaller portions more frequently throughout the day can help regulate metabolism better than eating three large meals a day.
